Across 190,000 square feet in Northern Virginia, this financial regulatory institution used a workplace pilot to prepare for a more digital future, then carried the lessons into headquarters. IA developed scalable standards for flexibility, technology, and employee choice before translating them into a client-facing environment shaped by security, hospitality, and mission.

The Pilot De-Risks Change
The 156,000-square-foot pilot allowed the institution to test workplace components before wider implementation. IA aligned technology with employee workflows, supported evolving remote-work policies, and developed adaptable standards that could scale across the enterprise. Reconfigurable neighborhoods, team areas, and individual settings respond as needs change. Quiet cars support concentration; ideation labs, conferencing, food service, training areas, and a customer engagement center create destinations for learning and exchange. Integrated technology and experiential graphics connect function with identity. By validating a broader range of settings at meaningful scale, the pilot reduced uncertainty and gave leaders practical evidence for future workplace decisions without compromising clarity or security.

“The IA team was innovative and forward thinking when conducting the visioning session for the new space pilot. They focused on our customer needs, supported our aggressive schedule, and limited budget by accelerating the visioning and design process without compromising the quality of the design. IA did not miss a deadline. And the Architectural, Interiors, and Branding teams integrated seamlessly with our communication and brand teammates. Overall, they delivered an innovative workplace solution on budget and schedule with minimal changes required during construction. IA is a great partner to any organization who is exploring new opportunities for a sustainable workplace supporting DE&I corporate goals.”

Headquarters Makes Strategy Visible
The pilot’s lessons informed a 34,000-square-foot headquarters renovation spanning workplace and public areas. A new lobby, café, and conferencing town center replace compartmentalized rooms with a setting capable of supporting simultaneous activities and larger groups. Spaces shift among individual work, team collaboration, social gathering, and client engagement, with technology and security embedded throughout. Materials bridge the renovation to adjacent existing areas, creating continuity without unnecessary replacement. Developed with the institution’s brand team, mission-centered graphics celebrate service to homebuyers; large-scale typography on glass adds privacy and wayfinding. Headquarters becomes the visible proof point for a workplace strategy built to travel further.
