Sector

Consumer Product

Inside Bloomingdale’s South Coast Plaza, 11,000 square feet of underused space becomes a new dining destination. Across two levels, Collage brings together local startups, boutique concepts, and international restaurants in an experience shaped by discovery, movement, and distinct points of view.

Different Experiences, One Destination
The mix moves from comfort food and cocktails to sushi and xiao long bao, with each concept retaining its own identity within the larger experience. The design does not smooth those differences away. It uses them to create variety, encouraging guests to keep moving, looking, and discovering.

Light, material, and scale shift from one level to the next, shaping distinct moods and moments along the way. The result feels less like navigating a department store and more like moving through a neighborhood, where another kitchen, table, or gathering place is always just around the corner.

Circulation as a Social Stage
At the center of Collage, a 60-foot-long, 12-foot-wide stair does more than connect two floors. An enlarged landing creates a setting for live music and performances, transforming circulation into a place to pause, gather, and participate.

Above, rose-toned monolithic glass and custom pendants bring a refined glow to the mezzanine. Below, a shared common area concentrates activity, while a steepled biophilic corridor reconnects Collage to Bloomingdale’s and creates a framework for future expansion. Outside, a canopy extends the experience through the seasons with summer shade and integrated winter heat.

Together, these interventions turn previously underused space into a more active part of the store. Dining introduces new energy, performance creates moments of connection, and the mix of independent concepts gives each visit the possibility of something different.

For Bloomingdale’s, Collage makes food and beverage more than an amenity. It becomes a strategy for drawing people in, extending their stay, and reshaping the department store as part of a broader day out.
